After releasing an acoustic album filled with rigid melodramatic feels in May earlier this year, the NYC-based singer-songwriter moves into a more experimental, dream-pop space working on her forthcoming second studio album. Her often, destination-orientated style of writing, surfaces again when she decides to be a tourist in her own city for a day, and boards a cruise ship filled with tourists to visit Lady Liberty after a romantic encounter left her with fireworks in her mind.
“Baby is my Statue” – written in a “broken English-style” will leave you with feelings of a time that you were desperately clinging on to what you wanted to believe about someone, even when the rest of the world told you otherwise.
She sings about putting her faith in situations despite her doubts, and this new experience she has, moving out of a passive aggressive space and only taking positive feelings away from encounters, leaves her feeling liberated.
The song sees the South African singer experiment with different languages including French & Afrikaans. The song is currently being reworked and produced by Rebirth Music Studios in South Africa. Big time producer Bobby Johnson, known for his work with Cassper Nyovest & Euphonik, is excited to collaborate with Illing to release a radio edit of "Baby is my Statue."
